Walk for Life 2010

Posted in Random, Religion at 8:00 pm by Jeff

On Saturday September 25th 2010, Desirée and I will have the privilege of supporting Choices Resource Center in the 2010 Walk for Life. This is the 15th annual walk that has been held. Choices Resource Center is a non-profit in Oak Ridge TN that help women when they face unexpected pregnancies. Their approach of ministering God’s truth with unconditional love enables each woman to make positive, informed choices for herself and her baby. Little ones will someday have the chance to thank their moms for choosing life rather than abortion. Their staff, supported by trained volunteers, have been committed to meeting the needs of our community since 1992. Some of the free, confidential services they provide are:

  • Accurate pregnancy tests and confidential consultation
  • Factual information about parenting, adoption, and the risks of abortion
  • Ultrasound Imaging
  • STD Testing
  • 24-hour Helpline (865 483 0099)
  • Heart to Heart parenting classes with Stork’s Nest Baby Boutique
  • Madre a Madre parenting classes for Spanish-speaking moms
  • STEPS Parenting Program
  • Second Thoughts sexual integrity education
  • Sarah’s Pearls purity support group
  • Healing Hearts post-abortion support for women / Missing Arrows for men

Desirée and I would love to have your support as we help support Choices. To support us, you can e-mail us, leave a comment on this page, or by going to http://crcwalkforlife.org/sponsor/jdlowe. Here’s the Proof

I’m so glad Chad and Amy will let Jeff practice on Baby Alek.  Jeff looked natural holding a “new” newborn.

24 Weeks

Posted in Baby Lowe, Family at 7:00 am by Jeff

This past Thursday we went to the OB and LJ had a check up.  The doctor only measured and listened to his heartbeat (142bbm).  It has ranged from 160 down to 140, so 142 is no surprise there.  Doc said everything was going great and asked if we were having any problems, which we aren’t.  He has started to be very active the past couple of days and I have been able to see him move.  It’s cool to see him kicking (although Desirée doesn’t seem to enjoy it too much when he’s pulling on the back side of her belly button).  :)

On a side note for me, I have always shy’d away from holding any baby that is less than 6 months old.  Seeing as though that’s about to drastically change here in a few months, I thought it was time to give it a whirl.  A co-worker of mine and his wife had a baby Saturday morning.  We went by Sunday to see them and I held Alek Easton Bellis.  He was a squishy little guy and it reassured the fact that I’m ready to be a dad.  Can’t wait for LJ to get here.  (For those that we haven’t told, we’re calling him LJ, but that isn’t what his name will be.  We’re keeping that on the DL until he gets here).  :)

Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails…

Posted in Baby Lowe, Family at 10:45 am by Desirée

…That’s what little boys are made of.

Last week we had our 20 week OB visit.  We are 21 weeks along in this journey…technically, one week past the halfway point.  Baby Boy Lowe is doing well.  Dr. Cadigan said his heartbeat sounds perfect and after a few minutes of small, ummm, well, baby talk she sent us on our way.  I enjoy our visits with Dr. Cadigan.  She’s really laid back and down to earth…which puts me at ease.  At our first visit, she gave us the list of “don’ts” and beyond that she says not to worry.  My pregnancy has been pretty easy so far.  Some days I don’t even feel any different than I did before I got pregnant (unless you count the way my stomach has suddenly started growing forward).  Which could be why our visits are so low key. I know I am very blessed and constantly thank the Lord I haven’t been sick with the typical maladies that come along with pregnancy.

I’ve felt him move a little bit more this week.  Not a constant movement , but I can definitely tell when he’s awake and playing verses the times he’s resting.  It’s an amazing feeling!  Even now as I’m typing this, he’s flitting around.

I thought I’d share a couple of photos.

This is a picture of his face.  You can see his forehead, brow bone, and his eyes.  He was squirming too much to get the typical head/spine profile.

Here I am at 20 weeks.  I’m pretty thankful I’ve only gained five pounds and that it’s all in my belly.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be preparing my classroom and getting ready for the new school.  Please pray for rest and quality sleep at night since there are some long days coming.  Also, Jeff and I were out at my school yesterday for him to move some things around and my air conditioning is not working.  The hallway was cool, the neighboring classrooms were cool, but my room stayed at 76 the entire time we were there.  Please pray that it will get fixed before I have to start spending several hours a day there.

Selfless Living, Radical Giving – Part 1

Posted in Family, Great Commission, Kingdom Challenge, Theology at 10:54 pm by Desirée

For the past several months Jeff and I have felt the Lord leading us to make some changes.  I could go into lots of detail, but it’s unnecessary.  Bottom line: we were being blatantly disobedient.  We both had known that the Lord was leading us away from our church.  Although neither one of us was brave enough to force that change immediately, we knew it was coming.  Individually we were both praying and asking God to reveal Himself.  He did…and we still ignored it.  When we found out we were expecting a baby we knew we had to finally be obedient.  It’s been amazing how good God has been to us.  He hasn’t blessed us with financial gifts and we don’t have any tangible gifts to show as a reward of being obedient, but what He has given us is a peace that neither one of us have felt in several months (those same months of living disobediently).

He’s brought us back to the church that I was apart of before we got married.  In His sovereign timing, this church has just embarked on a new season of her life.  I don’t believe it’s coincidental that the Lord changed our disobedient hearts towards obedience at this specific time.  A beginning of a radical faith journey has just begun at First Baptist Church of Powell.  God wanted us on the front end of it, rather than joining in too early or too late.  Amazing, His timing.  This is not the church…well, won’t be the church that I left 2.5 years ago.

The elders have issued a challenge to the members.  The Kingdom Challenge is a focus to put what has been taught into practice and to emphasize an “on-mission” for God mindset 24 hours a day/7 days a week.  If you a believer, God has issued a command to you…not a suggestion, not an afterthought, but a COMMAND.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28:19-20

Making disciples is more than just bringing someone to church or leading someone in “praying a prayer” and then never having any contact with them again.  Making disciples is a committed lifestyle of sharing Christ.  Pouring Christ’s life into others by investing in relationships and sharing the teachings of Christ.  By faith, one receives Christ as their Savior and often one encounter isn’t enough.

There are five areas where FBCP is going focus their work in the Kingdom of God.

  1. Taking the gospel to those with little to no access to it.
  2. Meeting physical and spiritual needs of the poor, orphaned, and widowed.  (James 1:27)
  3. Providing medical care to children in impoverished areas by helping with preventable diseases and deaths.
  4. Organizing intentional and specific prayer for people groups with less than a 2% Christian population.
  5. Pour our lives into others by discipling and sharing a Biblical world view.

To meet these needs and to be obedient in the command Christ gave us we addressing two areas.

1- Selfless Living by reprioritizing our lifestyle…what are we doing with our resources?  (Time, money, energy, talents)

2-Radical Giving by giving above and beyond what we normally give to the church budget.

Jeff and I are excited to be a part of what God is doing in His kingdom.  We’re actually humbled that He lets us be a part of it when we’re imperfect and prone to want to do things our own way.

Pray for us as we journey along with the Lord.  Pray for our transition into a new body of believers.  Pray that we find a small group to connect with.  Pray that we would stay in the Word of God daily and rely on His Truths.  Pray for Baby Lowe as we prepare spiritually for his arrival.  I’m already praying that he would be a man of God that would impact the Kingdom of God in mighty ways.

What can we pray with you about?
